Fort Pierce Library’s ArtSpace Features the Treasure Coast Art Association
The Fort Pierce Branch Library’s ArtSpace features works by members of the Treasure Coast Art Association on display now through Aug. 26.
Originally formed in 1955 as the Fort Pierce Art Club, under the leadership and presidency of A. E. “Bean” Backus, the group had a charter membership of 35 members. The members are dedicated to bringing a greater awareness of art to the community and to providing artists with an opportunity to show their works at a series of galley and sidewalk exhibitions. The organization also gives art lovers an opportunity for service and participation in art development. Several scholarships to artists were given and have been continued to the current time. The club was incorporated as a Florida not-for-profit corporation in 1984.
The Fort Pierce Art Club voted to rename the corporation in 1988 and is now known as The Treasure Coast Art Association, Incorporated. A permanent facility for the displaying of art and studio space for working artists was obtained at 223 Avenue A, Fort Pierce and has been in continuous operation at that location to the present time.
The Fort Pierce Branch Library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Residents interested in displaying their artwork as part of the Fort Pierce Library’s non-commercial ArtSpace area should contact Librarian Shelia Small at 772-462-2199 or firstname.lastname@example.org. This is not a commercial venue. Artwork is displayed for enjoyment purposes only.
