Kilmer Library’s ArtSpace Features Martha Purdy for September

Post Date:08/31/2017 8:22 AM

The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch Library’s ArtSpace will feature works by artist Martha Purdy on display now through Sept. 30.

Purdy came to Florida from Mexico 18 years ago. She currently lives in Fort Pierce, cleaning houses for a living, and studying for her U.S.  Citizenship exam. Purdy has always liked to draw, and in thinking about a new art project realized that many people who come to the United States don't know much about its history. She decided to draw individual portraits of each of the 45 presidents so everyone can see what they looked like. While she plans to continue drawing presidents, she is thinking about her next project which she said will be painting animals and flowers in oil on glass surfaces.

The Susan Broom Kilmer (formerly Fort Pierce) Branch Library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Residents interested in displaying their artwork as part of the Fort Pierce Library’s non-commercial ArtSpace area should contact Librarian Shelia Small at 772-462-2199 or smalls@stlucieco.org. This is not a commercial venue. Artwork is displayed for enjoyment purposes only.

The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch of the St. Lucie County Library System is located at 101 Melody Lane. For more information about programs visit: www.stlucieco.gov/Library
