St. Lucie County Hosts Open House for Mosquito Awareness Week June 28

Post Date:06/06/2018 8:49 AM

Anyone who has spent time outdoors in St. Lucie County these last couple of weeks knows that our pesky summer-time insects are back in business. Recent rains left standing water throughout the Treasure Coast, creating the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Fortunately, the St. Lucie Mosquito Control District’s response team is in action and seasonal fogging has begun.

Fogging maps and schedules can be found on the District’s website: The Mosquito Control District is dedicated to protecting people, livestock and pets from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.

The general public can learn all about the Mosquito Control District and the important work they do by participating in Mosquito Control Awareness Week, which takes place the last week of June each year.  This year, St. Lucie Mosquito Control District will host an Open House / Touch-a-Truck event on Thursday, June 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the county compound, 3150 Will Fee Road in Fort Pierce. The event is open and free to the public.

There will be trucks and equipment on display, a mosquito science discovery area for budding entomologists, games and prizes, as well as demonstrations of equipment.   Refreshments will be served.
