Housing Department Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Initiatives (CDBG DRI)

Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Initiatives funding has been made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, pursuant to the Military Construction Appropriations and Emergency Hurricane Supplemental Appropriations Act.

St. Lucie County has designated these funds to be used for:

  • Rehabilitation and preservation of housing
  • Water and sewer improvements
  • Street improvements
  • Drainage improvements.

Resident applications for these funds are available. Please contact the Housing Division directly for an Application for Housing Assistance.

Some of the funds awarded following Hurricanes Jeanne and Frances are being used to install drainage, and sewer lines and components, as well as provide street improvements on 26th Street between Cortez Street and Yergin Avenue. The remainder will be used to repair some of the over 51,627 housing units that were destroyed during those storms. Applicants for the repair program need to fall in the low to very-low Income range based on family size.
