Community Services Housing Division

Housing Manager John FranklinThe Housing Division administers the state and federal housing programs for down payment/closing cost assistance to purchase a home, and through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, to rehabilitate existing homes for low income families. It also manages the County's Housing Disaster Plan.

There is often an affordability "gap" caused by the lack of funds for down payment and closing costs that presents a barrier to homeownership for many families. A larger down payment means smaller monthly housing expenses or sometimes a larger house. St. Lucie County has programs designed to make it possible for eligible families to cross that affordability "gap" by providing the funds necessary to make a larger down payment and/or pay closing costs when purchasing a home for the first time.

St Lucie County also has programs designed to assist homeowners with home repairs in order to resolve code violations or health and safety concerns. The County works to provide repairs to homes owned by eligible households in the unincorporated areas of the county.
