INTACT Hurricane Mitigation
Mitigation is the process of 'hardening' a home to make it less likely to be damaged during a storm. The state legislature in conjunction with the Department of Financial Services has provided funding to assist low income residents in making improvements to their home to reduce the likelihood of wind and water damage during a hurricane. The following types of improvements have been approved.
- Improving the strength of the roof deck attachment.
- Creating a secondary roof water barrier to prevent water entering the home if the roof is damaged.
- Code + roof coverings.
- Gable Bracing in homes with gable roofs to reduce roof loss and damage.
- Reinforcement of roof to wall connections to decrease the chance of roof loss.
-
Upgrading doors and windows to reduce water intrusion and wind damage.
Homeowners will receive a free home inspection with recommendations on how to make your home stronger against wind damage.
