Fisherman’s Wharf is a 24.5 acre mixed use track of land located between the working industrial Port to the North and the designated historic districts of Edgartown and Fort Pierce to the South. While it’s a popular destination for locals and tourists, it is currently being underutilized; thus, the County and City are moving forward in a joint effort and in collaboration with the community in order to create a redevelopment plan that will address connectivity and buffering through street design and furnishings, signage, landscaping, shading, lighting, parking, stormwater management, massing and other achievable means as professionally determined.
The Fisherman’s Wharf Redevelopment Plan will act as a guide for the development of high quality transition zones between residential, retail and recreational areas and the industrial port in downtown Fort Pierce and will identify the facilities and infrastructure needed to support the anticipated businesses and operations within the zones. The idea is to transform the Fisherman’s Wharf area into an economically diverse “Transition Zone” with uses that are compatible and complementary to the area. Additionally, the plan will serve to protect and support historic downtown and Edgartown and become an integral part of the Port of Fort Piece Master Plan.
