Grants and Disaster Recovery
For the seventh year in a row, County grant writers were able to increase grant funding by securing more than $13 million in grants. This included funding for Angle Road sidewalks, hurricane protection for low-income housing, the Citizen Emergency Response Team, restoration of Blind Creek, the Special Needs Shelter, and Taylor Creek Dredging. During the past year, the Grants Department assumed responsibility for disaster recovery. In this new role, the department will be responsible for coordinating with FEMA and other federal / state agencies to secure funding for disaster recovery following emergency events. The County continues in its efforts to recover from Hurricanes Frances, Jeanne and Wilma.
