May 8, 2006 - "Hook a Kid on Golf" Program at Fairwinds Golf Course
St. Lucie County's Fairwinds Golf Course has been selected to host "Hook A Kid On Golf," a national skill development golf program administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports. "Hook A Kid On Golf" is aimed at youngsters who normally would not have the opportunity to learn to play the sport of golf. The program will take place June 26-30 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m."We are excited about the opportunity to host this program," said Matt Baum, Fairwinds Golf Course Manager. "Most youngsters have unlimited opportunities to play sports such as baseball, basketball and football but only a select few get the opportunity to learn about golf."
The first level of this program is a Tee Level Clinic in which locally sponsored youngsters receive a free week-long instruction clinic. Youngsters also receive a starter set of golf clubs, a golf shirt, golf balls and other supplies.
Youngsters ages 8-13 may participate through $125 sponsorships from area businesses and individuals. For their sponsorship fee, sponsors get opportunity to participate with their sponsored youngster in a golf outing at the end of the week. To be eligible for participation youngsters must have never played golf, not own a set of golf clubs and be between the ages of 8 and 13.
