Celebrate International Museum Day at the St. Lucie County Historical Museum with free admission on Wednesday, May 18th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.In the spirit of this year's theme, "Museums Bridging Cultures," visitors can explore the fascinating cultural heritage of the Treasure Coast and discover the cultural diversity of the Ais Indians, Spanish explorers, Seminole Indians, Florida Crackers, pioneers, immigrants and early immigrant settlers who built the cornerstone of St. Lucie County's heritage.
Celebrated worldwide since 1977, International Museum Day is sponsored by the International Council of Museums. "Museums Bridging Cultures" stresses the role of museums in providing cultural exchange and enrichment and by fostering cultural understanding of the various ethnic, religious and national cross-sections of the community.
The St. Lucie County Historical Museum is located at 414 Seaway Drive at Museum Pointe in Fort Pierce. The Museum features 16 permanent exhibits of local heritage, the 1908 Gardner House and a changing special exhibit gallery which provides a journey through the county's rich colorful history. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon 4 p.m.
