Monday, April 28, 2008 - Libraries Present Four Genealogy Sessions in May

Local historian and genealogist Patti Kirk will host four lectures/classes at two St. Lucie County libraries this May.

Kirk will continue her Genealogy History Series at the Morningside Branch Library in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, May 7 with a class and lecture.  The genealogy class will take place at Morningside from 10- 11:30 a.m., followed by the lecture series from 1:30 - 3 p.m. The topic for May's Genealogy History Series lecture will be on President Franklin Delano Roosevelt: American President and Hero.  Come attend Kirk's ''Fireside Chat'' and recapture the story of America's greatest President at a time when the soup lines were long, streets were filled with unemployed young men, the homeless were sleeping in vacant buildings and women and children were ''food beggars'' on the streets.

Additionally, Kirk will offer two classes at the Lakewood Park Branch Library on Tuesday, May 6 from 2:15 - 3:30 p.m. dealing with message boards on the internet and on Tuesday, May 20 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. to discuss maiden names.

All of these events are free and open to the public.

A historian, genealogist, lecturer, teacher and syndicated columnist of genealogical studies, Kirk is the creator of the Family History Genealogical Research Group covering Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Brevard counties. This group offers history lectures to the public as well as genealogy classes.

The Morningside Branch Library's Genealogy History Series is held on the first Wednesday of each month through September from 1:30 - 3 p.m. with classes running from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on the same day.
