Friday, May 23, 2008 - Fort Pierce Library Announces June Monday at the Movies

The Fort Pierce Branch Library announces the lineup for ''Monday at the Movies'' this June. Held every Monday, the library will present a free film, starting at 2 p.m.; complete with popcorn and drinks.
  • June 2 - ''Splendor in the Grass,'' starring Natalie Wood, Pat Hingle and Warren Beatty. In this film that challenged small-town hypocrisy, Deanie is a teenager eager to do what’s right in her 1920s Kansas hometown. But the emotions she shares with her boyfriend, Bud, are too strong to ignore. Soon the conflict between “respectable” behavior and what their desires demand will push Bud to physical collapse and Deanie to madness.
  • June 9 - ''Woman of the Year,'' starring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. In this hilarious excursion into the Battle of the Sexes, Tracy plays Sam Craig, the down-to-earth sportswriter of the New York Chronicle. As Tess Harding, the paper’s bright international columnist, Hepburn makes his life miserable.
  • June 16 - ''The Hairy Ape,'' starring William Bendix and Susan Hayward. Rough, but sensitive, ship's stoker Hank Smith believes his strength comes from the excessive hair that covers his body. He meets beautiful, wealthy socialite Mildred Douglas who is disgusted by Hank, calling him a ''hairy ape,'' but when she sees that he lusts after her, she decides to lead him on. She uses her hold over him so that he can become a pawn in her nefarious schemes, leading to a disastrous chain of events.
  • June 23 - ''The Banger Sisters,'' starring Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon. The story of two former groupies of '60s music legends whose two worlds collide two decades later.
  • June 30 - ''Strangers on a Train,'' starring Robert Walker and Farley Granger. Alfred Hitchcock's thriller about tennis star, Guy, who hates his unfaithful wife and mysterious Bruno, who hates his father. How perfect for a playful proposal: ''I'll kill yours, you kill mine.''
