Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - Fort Pierce Library Book Club Announces June Selections

The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend the ''Great Expectations Book Club,'' which meets to discuss selected books the first and third Thursday of each month at the Fort Pierce Branch Library at 10 a.m.
  • June 5 - ''The Notebook'' by Nicholas Sparks. This story about the enduring power of love is set in coastal North Carolina in 1946. Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner, returns home from World War II to restore a plantation home to its former glory. He is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met 14 years earlier. Unable to find her, he is content to live with only memories…until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.
  • June 19 - ''Three Cups of Tea'' by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. This adventure story is about Mortenson's decade-long odyssey to build schools, especially for girls, throughout the region that gave birth to the Taliban and sanctuary to Al Qaeda. Today, as the director of the Central Asia Institute, Mortenson has built 55 schools serving Pakistan's and Afghanistan's poorest communities.

New members are always invited to join the book club. Come have coffee and cookies and enjoy a lively book discussion.
