Thursday, June 5, 2008 - Meet An Author Of Young Adult Novels At Two County Libraries June 20
Holly Moulder, the author of two historical fiction novels for young adults, will talk about her books and what it takes to write a book and have it published on Friday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at the Fort Pierce Branch Library and again at the Morningside Branch at 1 p.m.Moulder will describe the journey through the writing process, explaining the process of editing, re-writing, and the joy of seeing your work published for the first time.
A former Teacher of the Year, Moulder taught elementary grades in Newnan, Ga. for more than 20 years. In 2006, she left the classroom in search of a new way to motivate children to read.
The author's book, ''Eyes of the Calusa'' tells the story of a runaway slave, a Cherokee boy, and a future president who share the adventure of a lifetime. It takes place in the beginning years of the 18th Century when fierce Calusa Indians ruled the Golden Coast of Southwest Florida.
''A Cord of Three Strands'' is about a 13-year-old Cherokee boy named John in Georgia in 1838, who is forced to leave his home to walk what is now known as the Trail of Tears to the Oklahoma Territory. A 21-year-old girl named Annie, living in Alabama, is a runaway slave traveling the Underground Railroad in a desperate search for freedom. Their paths cross and the pair agree to travel on together. This ''cord of three strands'' becomes complete when they are joined on their journey by a young lawyer named Abraham Lincoln.
These programs are free and registration is not required.
