This event is hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but one or more St. Lucie County Commissioners may be in attendance.
Time
Program starts promptly at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. so you can be parked and seated by the time the event begins at 10.

The ceremony location is across the street from 3185 Sneed Road, Fort Pierce, Florida 34945.
Project Background
The C23/24 Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) is a 2,568-acre feature designed to treat water from the C-23 and C-24 Basins and provides 4,750 acre-feet of storage. Its purpose is to reduce the sediment, phosphorus and nitrogen going to the St. Lucie River Estuary and the southern portion of the Indian River Lagoon. The STA is a component of the Indian River Lagoon-South (IRL-South) project.
COVID-19
- Masks will be required for all attendees throughout the event, and social distancing protocols will be enforced.
- Seats will be limited per DoD COVID-19 protocols. Please do not bring guests.
- You should not attend if:
- You have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past five days of the event and are asymptomatic
- You have tested positive for COVID-19 and had symptoms, and the symptoms have not been resolved for at least 24 hours
- You have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past ten days and have not been tested, even if asymptomatic
- You have any symptoms of COVID-19 and have not tested negative for COVID-19 within the past 48 hours
Program
The event will include a speaking program followed by a groundbreaking ceremony. After the official party has broken ground, we will accommodate anyone who would like to take a personal groundbreaking photo using the ceremonial shovels.
Attire
Civilian dress is business casual with sturdy shoes. Military uniform is Army Combat Uniform or service equivalent.
Special Accommodations
If you require special accommodations, please contact us in advance so we can discuss ways to assist you. The ceremony will be in an open field. It will be extremely difficult for those who are not sure footed or who require the use of mobility aids. We are committed to working with you to ensure you have access to the site but need enough time in advance to discuss your specific needs and find reasonable accommodations to make your visit to the ceremony possible.
Event Safety
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is dedicated to ensuring a safe event for all guests. The ceremony will be in an open field and the ground is uneven. Please watch your step, follow all instructions from event staff, and do not climb on the heavy equipment that will be on display during the event.
Amenities
There will be portable restrooms and a hand washing station at the parking area.
Inclement Weather Plan
Attendees will be sitting under a tent in case of inclement weather. On the day of the event, please pay close attention to your email. If the forecast is for dangerously poor weather, we will make a safety determination that morning and attempt to contact everyone via e-mail to inform you of changes to the ceremony plan.
