St. Lucie County will host a Community Engagement Open House on Monday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 SE Airoso Blvd, to collect public input on the Upward Mobility Cohort Project. The Upward Mobility Cohort Project is a data-driven, community-wide effort to identify policies and best practices that will boost the upward mobility of our residents.
“As a resident and concerned citizen – or as a representative of an agency, government, service provider, community resource – you know our community,” said St. Lucie County Community and Business Engagement Coordinator Sarah Smith. “You can help us understand if the data and metrics reflect the needs and service gaps in our community.”
In May of 2021, the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners was one of eight communities selected by the Urban Institute to participate in a study that will develop policies and practices that boost economic success and give autonomy, power and a sense of belongingness to our residents.
Through a competitive process between 64 counties, St. Lucie County was chosen by The Urban Institute to receive a $125,000 grant and 18 months of technical assistance from the institute, including data analysis and policy and programmatic advising. Additionally, the county will benefit from peer-learning opportunities where local leaders can attend meetings, workshops and training to share knowledge about promoting upward mobility and help develop best practices.
