Indian River Lagoon Science Festival

  • Date: 10/22/2016 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This FREE family-friendly community celebration aims to show that science is not only important, but also fun! Participants will delight in the chance to view solar activity through specialized telescopes with Treasure Coast Astronomical Society, make slime with Camelot Community Care, create toys for chimpanzees with Save the Chimps, Inc., race cockroaches with USDA/ARS US Horticultural Research Laboratory, and build boats with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. Dozens of exhibitors from throughout the IRL region will have hands-on activities and demonstrations exploring different areas of science, including agriculture, chemistry, engineering, computer science, ecology, neurology, marine science and more!

Visitors will have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with many fascinating aspects of STEM at the IRL Science Festival, with hands-on activities from over 75 exhibitors. Highlights of the event include:

  • Building and launching rockets with NASA Kennedy Space Center
  • Meeting Smokey Bear with Florida Forest Service
  • Board breaking demonstrations by Sidekick Martial Arts Studios
  • Live animal presentation by Treasure Coast Wildlife Center
  • Food trucks from area vendors
  • FREE PARKING at City of Fort Pierce Parking Garage and other downtown locations

Additionally, there are a number of science-focused satellite events taking place across Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties leading up to the Festival day. For more information on these events, visit the IRL Science Festival website at www.irlsciencefest.org.
