The Open House will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the St. Lucie County Commission Chambers on the 3rd Floor of the St. Lucie County Administration Annex, 2300 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34982. Project personnel will be on hand to discuss the scope of work, construction schedule, and address questions and comments one-on-one. No formal presentation will be made.
This 1.8-mile project is expected to begin October 31, 2016, and is anticipated to be completed in spring 2020, weather
permitting. The cost for construction is $26,848,291.55. Work will be performed by Morrison-Cobalt JV, with FDOT and
Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. overseeing the project.
Scope of Work:
- Reconstructing the existing two-lane Midway Road to a four-lane, divided highway with a raised median
- Access points and turn lanes will be provided throughout the corridor
- There will be turn lanes at all four (4) signalized intersections: S. 25th Street, Oleander Avenue, U.S. 1, and the
new signalized intersection at Sunrise Boulevard
- Additional median openings will be at the following locations along Midway Road: 800’ east of S. 25th Street,
White City Park Entrance, Magnolia Avenue, Cypress Avenue, Elm Avenue, 700’ east of Oleander Avenue,
-Melville Road, and 600’ east of Melville Road
- Constructing a new bridge over the North Fork St. Lucie River
- Constructing a 6-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 12-foot multi-purpose trail on the south side Midway Road
- Constructing 4-foot bike lanes on both sides of the roadway
- Reconstruction of S. 25th Street approximately 1000’ to the south & north of Midway Road
- Reconstruction of Sunrise Boulevard from W. 1st Street to Charlotta Street
- Reconstruction of Oleander Avenue from W. 2nd Street to Merritt Ditch
- Drainage improvements, including constructing 6 retention ponds at 5 locations
- Signage, signalization, and lighting improvements
Maintenance of Traffic:
In order to do this work safely, it will be necessary to close travel lanes at various times and locations. Work will be done in
phases to minimize impacts to residents, businesses and the motoring public.
Daytime lane closures will occur intermittently Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Midway Road and
cross streets, except for S. 25th Street where lane closures are permitted between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. One lane will be
closed at a time, maintaining two-way traffic with flag crews.
