Discover New Hobbies, Friends at St. Lucie County Libraries

Explore new hobbies and meet new people as St. Lucie County libraries offer a wide variety of programs designed to help adults learn new skills.

Adult programs for November include: 

  • Chi Meditation on Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Learn the practices of Chi Meditation facilitated by Rosalee McCurdy, PhD. This class is open to adults 18 and older.
  • Nutrition Education Series on Fridays, Nov. 1, 8, & 22 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Don’t miss a guest speaker from the Treasure Coast Food Bank who will share tips on how to shop for and cook healthy foods on a budget. Sessions include demonstrations and free samples.   • Anatomy of a Short Story on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Dissect a published short story with its author, looking at plot, character arc, dialogue and scenes.
  • Still Life Painting on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us in making still-life pumpkin paintings.
  • Knitting Program for Adults on Tuesdays, Nov. 5, 12, & 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Learn how to make a simple market bag. This program is for any adult who would like to learn to knit or would like to improve their skills. No registration is required, but space Is limited.
  • MedlinePlus to Table on Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13 & 20 at 2 p.m. at the Pruitt Campus Library. Discover a wealth of health and wellness resources available from MedlinePlus.   • Yoga Basics on Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14 & 21 at 2 p.m. at the Pruitt Campus Library. This traditional flow will take place on the mat and offer modifications, making the practice accessible for most people. Please wear comfortable clothing. All adults are welcome.   • Garden Chat on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Master Gardener volunteer Lynda Salsbury will lead a gardening discussion.
  • Chair Yoga on Friday, Nov. 8 and Tuesdays, Nov. 12 & 19 at 2 p.m. at the Pruitt Campus Library. In this class, traditional yoga poses are cued to participants who are seated in a sturdy chair. Registration required: irsc.libguides.com/yoga.
  • Edible Native Plants & Native Medicinal Plants on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. St. Lucie County Audubon Society Conservation Chair & Master Gardener Diane will share tips on how to cultivate and utilize native edible and medicinal plants.   • Family Board Game Night on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Join us for family board game night. Bring your own games or use ours. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call Jenn Johnson for more information at 772-462-2199.
  • Yoga Basics for Adults on Fridays, Nov. 15 & 22 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Classes include breathwork, gentle movement and reflection. No experience or equipment is necessary. Space is limited. Best suited for adults 18 and older.
  • Art in the Evening on Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy an afternoon of crafts at the library. Best suited for adults 18 and up. All materials supplied.
  • History in Miniature Diorama Exhibition at the Morningside Branch. Multiple dioramas will be on display created by resident Enrico Capo, who will be onsite to discuss the history represented in miniature, including the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War. All ages are welcomed.
    • Thursday, Nov. 21 from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.
    • Friday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Art in the Afternoon on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Join us for an afternoon of crafting for adults. All supplies provided, no need to register. Call Jenn Johnson for more information at 772-462-2199.
  • Adult Coloring and Conversation on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Adult coloring promotes wellness, quietness and stimulate areas of the brain related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.
  • Ukulele Jam on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Hosted in partnership with the Treasure Coast Ukulele Club, bring your instrument or check one out at the library.
  • Acoustic Guitar Jam on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Time to unplug and play. Grab your acoustic guitar and get ready to jam along. Bring your phone or tablet to access the song list. All players welcome.
  • Art in the Afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us for an afternoon of crafting reserved for adults. We’ll be making fall diamond art bookmarks. All materials supplied.
  • Adult Coloring and Conversation on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Adult coloring promotes wellness, quietness and stimulates areas of the brain related to motor skills, the senses and creativity. Bring your own materials or use ours.

  • English for Beginners at the Morningside Library on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
  • Spanish for Beginners at the Morningside Library on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
  • Writer’s Workshop at the Morningside Branch on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
  • Genealogy Help at the Lewis Branch on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sewing machines available by appointment for two-hour sessions at the Hurston Branch by calling 772-462-2154.
