Why A Local Technology Planning Team (LTPT) Advisory Board?
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) Office of Broadband was established in July 2020 to increase the availability and effectiveness of broadband internet throughout the state and to enable DEO to access millions of federal grant dollars and assist rural communities with the expansion of broadband services. Digital inclusion ensures that individuals and communities in Florida have access to robust and affordable broadband connections, internet-enabled devices that meet their needs, and the skills to explore, create and collaborate in the digital world (digital literacy).
To this end the DEO has directed counties to create a Local Technology Planning Team (LTPT) and develop a strategic plan to increase and improve the availability of, access to, and use of broadband internet service in their local area, and to work with local internet service providers to apply for grants to implement broadband solutions identified by the LTPT.
Why Is This Important?
Digital inclusion ensures that individuals and communities have access to robust and affordable broadband connections, internet-enabled devices that meet their needs, and the skills to explore, create, and collaborate in the digital world (digital literacy).
