Fair Housing Discrimination Complaint Procedure 

If You Think your Rights Have Been Violated:

Information that will be collected for investigation:

  • Your name and address
  • The name and address of the person your complaint is against (the respondent)
  • The address or other identification of the housing involved 
  • A  short description and a detailed timeline of the alleged violation (the event that caused you to believe your rights were violated)
  • The date(s) of the alleged violation.

  • Contact St. Lucie County: Complaints pertaining to discrimination in any program funded or administered by St. Lucie County may be filed with:

  • The Fair Housing Coordinator is responsible for the intake and processing of all Fair Housing complaints. While not an expert in fair housing laws, the Fair Housing Coordinator is familiar with the complaint process and federal and state laws, which address fair housing.
  • St. Lucie County will provide referrals to the complainant to the Florida Commission on Human Relations or U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • The Fair Housing Coordinator will reasonably assist the complainant in submitting the complaint by providing assistance in explaining the form and/or contacting the appropriate office and allowing the use of agency phones for communication. The Fair Housing Coordinator cannot complete the complaint on your behalf.
  • If a complaint is filed, a record will be kept showing the date, time, nature of the complaint and decision made in the complaint process.
