The Authority is a public body enabled under the laws of the State of Florida.  It was created by Ordinance No. 80-003, as amended, enacted by the Board of County Commissioners of St. Lucie County, Florida on July 22, 1980.  The Authority’s governing body consists of a five-member Board of Directors appointed by the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners.

The Authority was created to assist in alleviating a shortage of capital for investment in housing in St. Lucie County.  In the years since its creation, the Authority has forged many working partnerships, most recently with the Escambia County Housing Finance Authority to provide below-market rate home loans.

The Authority consists of five members who meet when necessary.
