Books by Mail is a service based at the Lakewood Park Branch Library designed to make library materials available to residents of St. Lucie County for whom it is a hardship to get to the Library.

When a patron requests service, a Books by Mail brochure and application will be sent. A library card application will also be sent if the patron does not have a card. Service begins when the application is returned. You can also use the Online Application Form.

On the application patrons can note what subject categories and media formats they prefer. Library staff pick out and send books and audio-visual materials based on these selections. Specific titles can also be requested that may be found in the Library's Online Catalog. A slip of paper is included with each shipment for this purpose.

The due date is usually one month from the date of mailing. This should allow ample time for the items in the mail and leave patrons with the usual two weeks reading time.

Books and audio-visual materials are mailed in blue or maroon nylon mailing bags. When the items are ready to be returned, the patron need only flip the mailing label over and reinsert it in its plastic holder. Library materials are mailed at no cost to patrons via a special library rate. Return postage is paid by St. Lucie County or for eligible applicants by the US Postal Service. While enrolled in this service you will be checking out library items exclusively through the Books by Mail program.  If you regain mobility and are able to resume patronizing our branch libraries, your enrollment in Books by Mail will be deactivated.  Please understand that patrons cannot use both services simultaneously.
