Obtaining Items Not in the Collection
Books and CD audiobooks not currently in the collection and published at least one year ago (at least 12 months prior to the current date) may be available in the FLIN SHAREit online shared catalog, which you can access directly and request yourself online. This is the fastest way to get these items. Instructions appear below. Paper request forms are also available in each branch library.
DVDs not in the collection and items published in the last year can be requested through our online catalog or through a paper form available in each branch library. Instructions appear below, under "Requesting items not in the shared catalog."
Please do not submit requests for items that have not yet been published.
Requesting items through the shared catalog
Many books and CD audiobooks published at least one year ago that are not in the Library's collection can be borrowed by library card holders directly from other libraries. Here's how. (If the item you're looking for has been published in the last year, please see "Requesting items not available in the shared catalog" below.)
- Search for your item in the SLC online catalog to confirm it's not in our collection.
- Go to the shared catalog at https://flin.agshareit.com/home?cid=flin&lid=PFLR and log in with your St. Lucie County Library card number and PIN (make sure "PFLR: St. Lucie County Library System" is selected as your library).
- When you find your book or CD audiobook, click on the Request button. Please be sure to select your pickup location at the bottom of the page. When your item arrives you'll receive an email notice or phone call.
Requesting items not available in the shared catalog
If your item can't be requested through the shared catalog (DVDs and items published in the last year can't be), submit your request via the "Send a Request" feature at the top of the page in the SLC online catalog, or with a paper form available at any St. Lucie County Library branch and we'll attempt to borrow it from a library not in the shared catalog or purchase it. If we purchase the item it will not be subject to interlibrary loan guidelines.
Interlibrary Loan guidelines
Interlibrary loan is available to adult cardholders with accounts in good standing (with bills totaling less than $10 and no more than 29 overdue items). Users are limited to 3 active requests, and loan periods are 2 weeks. Renewals are not guaranteed to be granted by the lending library, so please submit a request for renewal at least 4 days prior to the due date. If the renewal is not granted by the lending library, the item must be returned by the due date to avoid the overdue fine of $1 per day. Patrons who fail to return items, repeatedly return items late, return damaged items, or fail to pick up requested ILL items will not be eligible for ILL borrowing. It's important that we return other libraries' items on time so that we can remain in good standing and be allowed to continue to borrow their items. Also, the per-item cost of interlibrary loan in dollars and staff time is significantly higher than that for items in our regular collection so we need to ensure its efficiency.
Replacement fees for damaged or lost items are determined by the lending library and may be many times the cost of the item, particularly for items borrowed from academic libraries. Complete interlibrary loan guidelines and procedures are available here.
