Parent and Child Aquatics: 6 months – 3 years

Purpose

Prerequisites

For children to become familiarized and acclimated to the aquatic environment and to develop water safety awareness among parents and caregivers. Some skills that will be covered include blowing bubbles, kicking, and floating.

  • A parent, caregiver, or other trusted adult must accompany the child in the water for each class
  • There are no skill prerequisites

 

Preschool Aquatics: 3 – 5 years

Preschool 1

Preschool 2

To familiarize students with the water, develop basic water skills, and begin to swim independently. Water safety is emphasized throughout all skill levels. Skills covered include: submersion, floating, and rudimentary swimming.

  • No skill prerequisites
  • Must be potty-trained
  • Must be able to participate in a small group with no parental involvement

 

Youth Learn-to-Swim: 6 – 17 years

 Introduction to Water Skills

Helps students develop positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices around the water

  • No skill prerequisites
  • Must be at least 6 years old or obtain permission of program supervisor

2

 Fundamental Aquatics Skills

Give students success with fundamental skills.

  • Swim on front for 15 yards, rolling over to float when needed.

Stroke Development

Builds on skills from Level 2 & develops strokes through additional guided practice in deeper water

  • Swim 25 yards front crawl and elementary backstroke
  • Swim 15 yards of breaststroke, back crawl, and butterfly
  • Tread water for 2 minutes

Stroke Improvement

 Develops confidence and strength to improve skills learned and introduces new aquatic skills.  
  • Swim 50 yards front crawl and elementary backstroke
  • Swim 25 yards of breaststroke, back crawl, and butterfly
  • Tread water for 2 minutes

 5

Stroke Refinement

Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes, swimming further distances  
  • Swim 50 yards front crawl and elementary backstroke
  • Swim 25 yards of breaststroke, back crawl, and butterfly
  • Tread water for 2 minutes with out hands
   

 

Adult Swim: 18 years and up

Purpose

Prerequisites

To help educate participants in the aquatic environment as well as teach them swimming strokes and safety skills. Instruction is individualized to the needs and goals of each participant.

  • No skill prerequisites
  • Must be at least 18 years old
