Geographical (spatial) information and maps are very important to most operations in St. Lucie County and are used on a daily basis to support countywide services. GIS provides a visual and geographical platform for managing County operations and provides a framework for information transfer between departments and the public.

The St Lucie County GIS Division is housed within the Planning & Development Department and supports all Board of County Commissioner's departments as the authority on geospatial technology and GIS software. We provide technical support to personnel who use GIS and serve as the repository of geographic data for the County.

Many of the County's departments are using GIS. Rather than maintaining incompatible hardcopy maps, many departments manage information in the GIS allowing them to store and manipulate information in a very efficient manner. These departments include Planning & Development, Property Appraiser, Engineering, Environmental Resources, Transportation Planning, Fire, Public Safety, and Public Works.
