Do I need a pet license?

Effective October 1, 2007, residents within the unincorporated areas of St. Lucie County who own, keep, harbor, maintain or have custody of any dogs and/or cats 4 months of age and older are required to obtain a pet license. Pet owners must license their dogs and/or cats with the County within 30 days of acquiring the pet and/or within 30 days after the owner or custodian takes residence in the unincorporated areas of the county. Failure to register with the County could result in the issuance of citations for each animal found to be in violation of County Ordinance 6-51.

Asides from being required by law, if your pet goes missing or is found wandering around the streets and has a County License on their collar, Animal Safety Officers, shelters and veterinary clinics will be able to obtain your contact information and get your pet back to you safely!
