The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Four Treasure Coast office is overseeing the construction of the improvements to the 1.8 mile segment of Midway Road/CR 712 from just west of South 25^th Street to just east of U.S. 1 in St. Lucie County.  The project will widen the existing two-lane road to a four-lane divided road to handle future expected traffic.  The project will also improve safety and allow opportunities for pedestrian, bicycle, and transit facilities.

Midway Road will be expanded to a four-lane divided highway with raised medians and designated bicycle lanes and pedestrian facilities.  Intersection improvements will be constructed at South 25^th Street, Sunrise Boulevard, Oleander Avenue, and U.S.1.  Additionally, Sunrise Boulevard will be signalized.  For pedestrians, the project includes the construction of a 12-foot wide shared use path along the south side of Midway Road from 25^th Street to U.S. 1.  A six-foot wide sidewalk will be constructed everywhere else within the limits of construction.  Drainage improvements include the construction of six retention ponds.
