GENERAL POPULATION SHELTERS
In the event of an emergency, shelters for the general public may be opened.
Please note that shelters should be used as a refuge of last resort. The Public Safety Department suggests staying with family or friends that live outside of the evacuation zones.

SECURE REGISTRY
The Secure Registry is designed to assist law enforcement and first responders during contacts with members of the community who have disabilities such as, but not limited to; Autism, Schizophrenia, Dementia, deafness or any other mental/developmental disabilities.
The registry promotes communication and gives responders quick access to critical information about a registered person with special needs. The registry can provide public safety officials with emergency contact information, detailed physical descriptions, known routines, favorite attractions, or special needs of the individual who is registered. This information can assist officers in communicating with, locating a residence for, or handling an emergency involving an individual with special needs.
The goal of the program is to give police quick access to critical information about a registered individual with special needs in the community in an emergency situation.
We ask that you or your loved one register annually. This will assist us if something changes and gives us access to an updated photo. We suggest using the birthdate of your loved one as a registration reminder.

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO
During an emergency, evacuation orders may be made to protect residents from a potential threat.
If you live in a mobile home, manufactured home, or recreational vehicle, it is best to be prepared to evacuate and find safe shelter elsewhere. Even if you live inland and have tie downs, these buildings may not withstand hurricane conditions or wind-borne debris.
If you live in a well-constructed home that is built to hurricane code, consider sheltering at home, unless ordered to evacuate by emergency management officials.
If you choose to evacuate, opt for sheltering with friends or family outside of the evacuation areas. If this is not possible, sheltering options will be made available by St. Lucie County.
