Moving Families Beyond Poverty

St. Lucie County is offering income-eligible households assistance with summer camp scholarships. Preference will be given to households who are working or currently enrolled in school. Eligible households must meet the following requirements:

Live in St. Lucie County;
Be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Proof of income required.

Scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first qualified basis.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Applicants must currently reside in St. Lucie County. Preference will be given to households who are working or currently enrolled in school. Income eligibility is based on household size. A household is defined as an individual or group of individuals living together as one economic unit regardless of relation. The household income may not exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Level in order to qualify for assistance. Income guidelines listed above.

How is income eligibility determined?

What is considered income?

The following is considered income per grant guidelines:

Money wages and salaries before any deductions;
Self-employment wages after deductions for business expenses;
Social Security payments;
Unemployment;
Worker’s compensation;
Veteran benefits;
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF);
Alimony;
Child support;
And all other allowable sources of income as determined by the grant guidelines.

How is this program funded?

The Human Services Division receives a Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) from the State of Florida, Department of Economic Opportunity. These funds aim to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in communities and help promote self-sufficiency. This program is supported by the Department of Economic Opportunity of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of an award totaling $834,508. Assistance is based on available funding.
