Moving families beyond poverty
If you have been denied financial aid, St. Lucie County’s Community Services Department’s Second Chance program may be able to help. The Second Chance program was designed to assist income-eligible Indian River State College students who have lost their financial aid due to:
- Low GPA
- Over completion rate
Only students who need 15 classes or less to graduate or to reinstate their financial aid are eligible.
Income eligible St. Lucie County residents can obtain financial assistance with up to 15 courses. Eligible households must meet the following requirements:
- Live in St. Lucie County.
- Must meet Florida residency requirements as established by Indian River State College.
- Must have applied and been denied financial aid.
- Be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

- Assistance cannot be provided for out-of-state tuition.
- Students over the credit limit OR with a bachelor’s degree or higher are not eligible.
