Park Information:
This 35-acre site includes a 1.5-mile hiking trail along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. A canoe launch provides access to the lake. There is also an additional one-mile interpretative trail.

- Picnic Pavilions
- Lawn Games (horseshoes / cornhole)
- ADA parking spots
- Restrooms (which will only be open when staff or work campers are present onsite)
Additional Information:
Trails: This site will connect several miles of proposed trail along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and allows visitors to have walking access to Captain Hammond's Hammock Preserve. Previously Captain Hammond's was only accessible by boat.
Habitat: Hammocks, and floodplain forest.
Commonly seen wildlife: Osprey, herons, alligators, bobcats, turtles.
Historical Interest:
The site is named after Dr. Peter Petravice (1915-1999), who established the this site as a plant nursery in the 1980s.
Notes:
Attention Pet Owners: Pets MUST be leashed and pick-up pet waste, it’s the law.
DO NOT feed or release feral cats into this preserve as it is an endangerment to all the native species that call this preserve home.
To ensure public safety and environmental protection, the following are NOT allowed on this site:
- Motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt bikes, or golf carts);
- Littering/destruction of property;
- Trapping, hunting, feeding, disturbing, handling or releasing wildlife;
- Removal of plants, animals, archaeological or cultural resources
